Dr. John Kumah’s death: It was guinea fowl and TZ, Wontumi’s aide alleges
Oheneba Nana Asiedu, an aide to NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi has thrown serious allegations to back his claim that the late Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. John Kumah was poisoned.
He said, both Dr. John Kumah and Chairman Wontumi felt sick after eating guinea fowl meat and local Ghanaian dish, Tuo Zaafi, given them at a hotel in Tamale.
Narrating events that led to the alleged night meal and reported sickness of the two, Oheneba Nana Asiedu stated that on that fateful day, they had accompanied the Vice President for his campaign tour in Tamale. The original plan was to proceed to Walewale after the Tamale the same day but it was very late, so they changed their plans and decided to stay in Tamale for the night. Thus, according to him no plan was made for meals in Tamale.
According to Oheneba, per the hotel arrangement, Dr. Kumah and Chairman Wontumi were to stay in a particular hotel while their aides and drivers would also stay in a different hotel both in Tamale.
When Dr. Kumah and Chairman Wontumi got to their hotel, Oheneba alleged that someone brought them, guinea fowl meat just for Chairman Wontumi and Dr. John Kumah, after which they were also served Tuo Zaafi.
“I woke up around 4am to go get his clothes to iron for him when I noticed that he had called me about 15 times around 1am,” Oheneba said of Chairman Wontumi.
He said he, therefore, rushed to the hotel of Wontumi and headed to his room where he noticed that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party had vomited on his bed, the floor and in his washroom. He said, medical care was immediately provided him, indicating that a medical doctor and two nurses gave him about six drips and some injections.
“At a point I heard the doctor saying that if a particular injection they were going to give him did not work, then they would have to rush him to Accra,” Oheneba narrated.
He said, John Kumah at that point indicated that he (John Kumah) did not eat a lot of the food and did not vomit a lot so was okay, hence, declined any medical treatment.
“However, around 10.30pm – 11pm that night, he called and told us to tell his driver to come since he was not feeling well, and his doctor had recommended some medicine for him so he wanted us to get him the medicine. We got him them medicine but since that day, the John I knew had never been well until he died,” he stated.
