Special prosecutor clears Mahama in Airbus scandal

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng has cleared former President, John Mahama and his brother of any wrong doing in the Airbus Scandal.

According to the Special Prosecutor, he “found no evidence, circumstantial or direct, which suggests that Foster and his associates were actually paid bribes and which bribes were to be transmitted to former President Mahama and that the bribes were actually paid to former President Mahama”.

Mr. Kissi Agyabeng added that the involvement of Foster and his associates as intermediaries in the sale at a time John Mahama was Vice President was a “case of luckless coincidence that attracted the disapproval of the UK and US authorities” as it occurred after the decision by the Government of Ghana to go for C-295 aircraft produced by Airbus.

There had been allegations of the two’s involvement in a bribery scandal relative to the sale to Ghana of two aircrafts, following proceedings in UK and US Courts.

According to the Special Prosecutor, despite the acceptance by Airbus in UK and US courts of its role in the bribery relative in the Airbus deal, it was important to investigate the named Ghanaian officials on their involvement.

Former Special Prosecutor, revealed that former President John Mahama was Government Official One cited by the UK Courts and Individual One cited by the US Court.

The OSP also indicated that Individual One cited by the US Court and Government Official One cited by the UK Court was John Mahama. Additionally, the OSP said Intermediary 5 per the description of the UK Courts and Consultant 4 per the description of the US Courts was one individual known both as Samuel Adam Mahama and Samuel Adam Foster a blood brother of the President who was adopted from Ghana in 1972 and sent to the UK by a British Missionary couple.

According to the OSP, Samuel Adam Mahama lost contact with his blood brothers in and they reconnected in 1997.
