You don’t insult a dead man – Mahama tells Napo

Former President John Mahama has attacked NPP running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh for recent comments on two late former presidents of the country, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Professor Atta Mills.

Addressing members of the NDC at a political event recently, President Mahama said the NPP running cannot hide his arrogance following his recent comments on the two former leaders of the country.

“I was just watching a video yesterday he was talking about the past presidents. He said Rawlings and he said Kufuor and somehow, he even forgot Professor Mills’s name and he said, “the one who is dead”. I mean how can you talk like this…arrogance is like pregnancy…whatever you do it will come out. We know them for who they are. They cannot repackage themselves again,” the former president said of Napo.

He noted that when Napo was introduced to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Ashanti King admonished him to prove to people that he was not arrogant like he had been tagged because he was part of the royal family and had been brought up well.

“As soon as he left there…not more than three hours he went to say ‘that your Nkrumah’…that is a very disrespectful thing to say about the Founder of this nation, and especially a Founder who is no longer alive. You can insult me because I can respond because I am alive but in our tradition you don’t say evil things about the dead…you don’t disrespect the dead because they are not alive to respond to you.

According to the former President, when the NPP wanted power, they pretended to be humble pounding fufu and grinding flour for Ghanaians in their homes but immediately after they won power, they showed Ghanaians their arrogant side.

“That was the mistake we made, because they were wolves in sheep clothing. Ghanaians thought they were humble lamb not knowing they were ravenous wolves waiting to consume the resources that are rightfully for the people of Ghana.

“You can’t hide arrogance, you can’t hide greed you can’t hide dishonesty, they say if you want to know a person’s true nature, give him power, after they got the power we know their true character…”, he stated.
