NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly referred to as Napo says a Bawumia led government will return all seized excavators of small-scale mining companies and facilitate their operations for as long as their operations are safe and environmentally friendly.
Addressing a section of chiefs, elders and residents of Prestea Huni Valley and Mporhor in the Western Region, Napo said the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had no plans to ban small scale mining.
These statements have generated controversy with spokesperson for the former Energy Minister, Fiifi Boafo claiming that the video recording was doctored.
According to a circulating video of the engagement was a doctored one and did not represent what the NPP running mate said at the said engagement in the Western Region.
He emphasized that what Napo stated was that duly registered small-scale mining companies would be allowed to operate in accordance with the law.
The Campaign Office of the NPP Running Mate also released a stated clarifying what the former MP had stated.
“At the community engagement in Bogoso in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency on Sunday, 8th September, 2004 Dr. Prempeh stated that Dr. Bawumia’s administration will facilitate small scale mining under strict regulations that ensure that the environment is not compromised,” the statement said.
The statement added that the 20minute full video does not contain what had been attributed to the NPP Running Mate.
