NDC will prioritize national peace and security – Mahama
Former President John Dramani Mahama, who is also the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 2024 elections, has assured Ghanaians that the NDC will prioritise national peace and unity.
Speaking about the upcoming election, he stressed that the opposition party is committed to preserving Ghana’s stability and will not engage in any actions that could undermine the country’s peace.
Flagbearer Mahama highlighted his deep commitment to peace, stating that, he cherishes Ghana’s peace over anything else.
He called on all political stakeholders to conduct themselves responsibly in the lead-up to the polls, underscoring the importance of maintaining decorum and fostering a peaceful atmosphere throughout the election period.
Reflecting on Ghana’s international reputation, Mahama noted that the country has long been admired globally for its peaceful nature.
He urged Ghanaians to protect this legacy, emphasising that it is a valuable accolade that must be preserved for future generations.
The former president further emphasised that Ghana’s peace is a “precious commodity” that cannot be compromised, calling on citizens to safeguard it vigilantly.
According to Mahama, national unity and stability are essential for the country’s progress and must be nurtured by all.
In addition, Mahama condemned the killing of eight individuals during the 2020 general election, calling for a peaceful and violence-free election this time.
He expressed hope that the upcoming polls would be conducted without any incidents and reiterated his commitment to ensuring a safe and harmonious electoral process.
“My brothers and sisters in the Lord, Ghana is known for its peaceful religious coexistence. We’ve always been the envy of many countries in our sub-region where peace has eluded them.”
“As we approach the elections, we should never forget that peace is fragile. Like an egg, once it is cracked, it cannot be put together again without the scars showing. We must never again unleash fatal violence on our people at polling stations, peacefully expressing their democratic rights to choose their leaders.”
“The peace and tranquillity of our country mean more to me than anything else. I solemnly commit to you that the party I lead will do all in our power to preserve the peace of our dear nation, Ghana,” he assured.
