Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says criticism against him for his open endorsement of the NPP Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia were misplaced stressing that he is entitled to speak up on what he thinks is the best path for the country.
Speaking at a gathering at gathering at Ofori Panin Fie, President Kufuor said, his status as a respected statesman does not mean that he should stay out of politics.
“I have heard the criticisms, and I understand where some are coming from,” Kufuor said.
“Some people think that because of my age and status as a former president, I should stay out of the political fray. But I believe that as someone who helped build the foundation of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), I have every right to express my views on the direction the party and the country should take,” he emphasized.
He said, Dr. Bawumia was well placed to formulate policies to help develop the country hence his endorsement of him.
