The Majority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed frustration over the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin’s refusal to reconvene parliament.
In an interview yesterday, on JoyNews the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu in the Central Region stated that while he cannot force the Speaker to call the house back into session, he will pursue constitutional avenues to address the grievances of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus.
“I cannot force him. I will use constitutional means, and if he shuts the doors, it’s up to him.” He emphasized.
This statement follows the Speaker’s rejection of a formal request by Afenyo-Markin to reconvene Parliament for urgent state matters.
Earlier, Afenyo-Markin had written to Speaker Bagbin, urging him to call Parliament back into session to address critical government business. However, the Speaker declined the request, indicating that Parliament would only be recalled after the December 7 elections.
Despite this setback, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the NPP’s immediate focus is on securing a decisive victory in the upcoming elections.
“For the next week, we will focus on the elections with a determined mind to win and win well for Parliament and our flagbearer,” He indicated.
