NPP denies working with Brigadier Michael Opoku to rig elections
The New Patriotic Party has denied claims by the Opposition NDC that it is working with the General Officer Commanding the Central Command, Brigadier General Michael Opoku to rig this year’s elections in the Asha nti Region.
On the contrary, the NPP claims that the NDC is rather training thugs to create chaos in the Ashanti Region.
National Organiser of the Party Nana Boakye at a press conference today said the allegations of conspiracy with the renowned Military Officer were baseless. “It is devoid of any iota of credible evidence and represents yet another desperate attempt by the NDC to raise tension and distract the people of Ghana from their own misdeeds,” he emphasised.
According to Nana Boakye, the party rather has gathered intelligence that the NDC under the leadership of COP Kofi Boakye was planning to discourage supporters of the party from voting in the upcoming elections through acts if intimidation and disruptions.
“Information available to the NPP reveals that several months ago, the NDC has been training thugs in various communities, including Obuasi East constituency, under the guise of private security training. These individuals are being prepared to disturb the electoral process, particularly in the Ashanti region, which is the NPP’s stronghold,” he stated.
He added that the the NDC committee on mining, led by Mr.Tony Aubynn, former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, held a secret meeting with some NDC-affiliated small-scale miners at the conference hall of Mawuli Hotel in the Obuasi West municipality to recruit members of pro-NDC small-scale miners to form part of the NDC’s Eagle Force vigilante group. He alleged that the vigilante group would be deployed to some NPP polling stations with the intention of causing mayhem on election day.
