Akufo-Addo and Mahama Appoint Transition Teams for 2024 Power Handover

Both President Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama have appointed transition teams to oversee the transfer of power as Ghana prepares for a new administration according to respective press statements released yesterday, 10th December,2024.

These appointments were made in accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), which ensures a smooth and orderly handover of governance.

President Akufo-Addo’s government appointed an 18-member transition team, inclusive of Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare. The team also includes key figures such as Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah, and Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame. Other members include the Head of the Civil Service and the National Security Coordinator, among others.

Similarly, President-elect Mahama has appointed his own transition team, which will work alongside the government’s team to facilitate the transfer of power.

The 12-member team is headed by Julius Debrah and includes Vice President-elect Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Ato Forson, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Other notable appointees are Joyce Bawa Mogtari and Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, appointed as Chief of Staff to the President-elect, among others.

President-elect John Dramani Mahama visited the Jubilee House today, December 11, following an invitation from President Akufo-Addo to begin the official handover process, marking the start of a coordinated and transparent transition.
