Baba Sadiq and Ebi Bright express satisfaction about Supreme Courts Ruling
MP-Elects, Baba Sadiq and Ebi Bright , have expressed gratitude and satisfaction about the Supreme Court’s decision to quash a high courts order for the recollation and redeclaration of results for the Okaikwei Central, Tema Central and two other constituencies.
In an interview, both candidates whose initial wins were overturned during the recollation process welcomed the supreme court ruling.
The MP-elect for Okaikwei Central,Baba Sadiq expressed his gratitude saying ‘We are grateful to the court for heeding to our request. The Law has spoken.”
He reiterated his position as MP elect and expressed hope that the true mandate of the people will stand.
”Now you know that I am still the MP-elect for Okaikwei Central, “We are optimistic and hopeful that the true mandate of the people is going to stand” He added .
Ebi bright also expressed her gratitude and confidence in the judiciary .
“Yes, we are happy that our confidence in the law has borne its fruits. We are grateful for the opprotunity.” She stated.
She further emphasized that the experience will equip them to serve their constituents better.
” I think it is important that everyone understands that this is just the beginning of our work, and this experience equips us to represent all our people a lot better. She emphasized
Both candidates extended Christmas wishes to their respective constituents
Following a court order, The EC conducted a recollation of results in nine constituencies on December 20. The recollation overturned initial wins for Baba Sadiq and Ebi Bright and two other NDC candidates.
In Okaikwei Central, Baba Sadiq was first declared the winner with 15,383 votes against incumbent MP, Patrick Yaw Boamah’s 14,949 votes. After the recollation, Patrick Yaw Boamah was announced the winner with 21,099 votes, while Sadiq’s lost with 19,368 votes
Similarly, in Tema Central, Ebi Bright initially won with 18,539 votes against Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party , who had 18,421 votes. The recollation, however, declared Forson the winner with 18,870 votes, while Ebi Bright lost with 18,815.
The Supreme Court’s ruling , chaired by Justice Gabriel Pwamang overturned the High Court’s order to recollate results for four constituencies: Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Obuasi East.
The court has ordered that the affected MPs will have a new hearing by a different High Court Judge on January 31,2024.
