NPP will lose the 2024 election because of the economy – Alan
Flag bearer of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen has predicted that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be unsuccessful in the December 7 election as a result of the poor state of the economy.
According to Mr. Kyerematen, the difficult economic conditions would lead to losses for his former party at polls as was the case eight years ago when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost power by a huge margin.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, the presidential candidate said regardless of successes chalked in other areas of governance, the election would come down to how voters felt about the economy.
“NDC was voted out of power in 2016 not because they didn’t do anything. Of course they had done quite well in the area of infrastructural development. Even dumsor, by the time we got to 2016, you remember, they had been able to bring in so much power generation that it was fixed.
“So the reason why the NDC lost power had nothing to do with whether they had done roads. It was the economy. They were voted out because of the economic crisis so you see as for the economy, it affects everybody.
“NDC lost the elections because of the economy. The economy was in crisis. It is the same thing that is going to happen to the NPP,” Mr. Kyerematen said.
He noted that while the ruling party had introduced “positive development like Free SHS and Agenda 111′ those interventions were not going to determine how people voted.
