Special Voting Chaos: Tensions Boil Over Between NDC and NPP in Koforidua Over Perimeter Clash
By Joyce Kpeglo
A heated confrontation between officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) disrupted special voting at the Police Canteen Galloway in Koforidua, New Juaben South Constituency
The altarcations began when Tijani Mikano, the NDC Constituency Organizer, resisted orders from security personnel to leave the restricted area. Mikano alleged that an NPP official was campaigning in the same zone. “The NPP has selected their people in the queue; they were campaigning, and I noticed what they were doing. Since the exercise started, it was peaceful until the NPP started sharing money in the queue,” he claimed.
The disagreement was resolved after EC officials and senior police officers intervened, persuading both parties to vacate the restricted perimeter
Presiding Officer Darlington Annan later clarified that Mikano was misinformed about the NPP’s actions. “The NDC executive was misled to believe the NPP agents exceeded the perimeter,” Annan explained.
The incident highlights the heightened political tension as Ghana approaches its general elections, highlighting the need for vigilance to maintain order during the voting process. The Electoral Commission called on all parties to respect regulations to ensure a peaceful and fair election
