We built Terminal 3 for $250million; the E-gates Bawumia put there cost more than the Terminal – Mahama

John Mahama

The Flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama has bemoaned what he believes is massive corruption in the NPP government.

He referred to the recent National Service Authority scandal and the E-Gates recently inaugurated by the Vice President at the Kotoka International Airport.

Speaking at the Party’s final rally before the 2024 elections, John Mahama said, when the NDC came into power they sacked 110 National Service officers who were involved in siphoning money from the State through the addition of ghost names to the Scheme.

He added that, with the return of the NPP, the ghost names have retuned and the criminal elements within the Scheme were making about GHS28million cedis every month while National Service Persons have not been paid for months.

He also questioned the reported cost of the E-Gates recently inaugurated at the Terminal Three of the Kotoka International Airport by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“We built the whole Terminal Three for 250 million, and the E-Gates cost more than the amount of the entire Terminal 3,” he stated.

The cost of the Terminal 3 E-Gates has come under scrutiny with renowned policy expert and lawyer, Bright Simmons describing it as a “shady” project.

“A project that was said to have been fully and effectively funded with $20 million of World Bank money was now packaged as a $240 million undertaking necessitating the imposition of additional tax of $11 on air travellers to and from Ghana,” Bright Simmons recently wrote.
