On many occasions, he was touted as the heir apparent of the Kantanka Group: to take over the reins of leadership and propel the Kantanka Group to greater heights. His father, the illustrious Apostle Kwadwo Safo had told stories of how prophetic his birth was, declaring that he carried the mantle of leadership that would sustain the Kantanka Group after his demise.

In one trending video, Apostle Kwadwo Safo explained why Kwadwo Safo Jnr., although not his first child or first son, was the heir apparent. He described him as ordained to lead after him, recounting dreams he received before his birth that, per his interpretation, confirmed that Kwadwo Safo Jnr was destined to lead after him.

Kwadwo’s rise has been meteoric, and he has led the Kantanka Group to business growth.

However, there are indications that a family rift is threatening to scuttle his succession aspirations following a controversial statement issued by lawyers representing the Family.

The letter described Kwadwo Safo Jnr as a former CEO of the Kantanka Group, and cautioned the public against dealing with him in any financial, contractual, or organizational way. It was signed by Dr. Emmanuel Yaw Boakye, who, according to the family, is the spokesperson for the family. It was issued by a firm known as Safo Attorneys @ Law.

But the letter, perhaps, was a revelation too late, as social media posts about five months ago may have signaled deep rifts in the family even before the death of the illustrious innovator. Kwadwo Safo Jnr’s recent social media posts have not been about his father’s Kantanka Group. Rather, he has been promoting what appears to be his personal business, Zakof Farms, with videos showing hundreds of poultry, eggs and catfish.

In a social media post about five months ago, Kwadwo Safo Jnr detailed his financial struggles and how he had lived as a rich man and also as a poor man.

“I have seen life as a rich man’s son; I have seen life as a poor person that almost ate from a dog’s plate – almost? – I did cos there was no food…My father is a typical example of a nobody to a somebody; a typical example of total rags to riches. I will do it, I will achieve it. It’s not going to be easy starting from scratch; putting everything that you have, everything you own, everything you are, aside, and to be somebody that you are proud of…”.

The post has been brought into sharp focus following the family statement denouncing Kwadwo Safo Jnr and the indications of deeper rifts were deepened when the known lawyer of the late Apostle, Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka issued a statement disclaiming the earlier statement from the family against Kwadwo Safo Jnr.

The family of the late Apostle faced some uncomfortable moments when on their visit to Manhyia to inform Otumfuo Osei Tutu of the death of their leader, they were asked about the whereabouts of Kwadwo Safo Jnr by Otumfuo. Adwoa Safo managed to reply, and a family member also indicated that “he is in Accra”.

Meanwhile, a close associate of the family, Osebo the Zaraman, says the family will select the successor of the late Apostle after three months, adding that the three sons of the late Apostle will decide among themselves who should lead the family.

Before the death of Apostle Safo, Osebo indicated that he had given clear instructions as to how his succession should be handled. “First, he indicated that someone should be appointed in an Acting Capacity to lead the Family for three months, after which the three sons should meet and select a leader from amongst themselves”, he indicated.
