GMA suspends Strike action

The Ghana Medical Association and the Union of Professional Nurses and Midwives have called of their Strike that had began to create frustrations at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

Concord News Online earlier reported that the Strike was beginning to bite as many patients had been left frustrated. It was response to the call by the Trades Union Congress for public sector workers to embark on an industrial action over the decision of SSNIT to sell 60 percent of its stake in some four hotels.

But following the withdrawal of the bid by Rock City and the termination of the deal by SSNIT, the TUC has called for a suspension of the Strike and given SSNIT one month to address the concerns of organised labour.

A statement from the GMA said, “following an emergency meeting on 15th July, 2024, Organised Labour has decided to suspend the industrial action with immediate effect following a formal communication by SSNIT confirming the termination of the sale of the 60% shares.”

The statement signed by the President and General Secretary of GMA, Dr. (Med) Frank Serebour and Dr. (Dent) Richard Selormey respectively urged members to return to post.
